Schizophasia and Bipolar Disorder affect approximately 1% of the global population—over 80 million people worldwide.
For those living with these mental health conditions, everyday life can be a constant challenge. Success often depends on having a strong, reliable support system.
Navigating life with a mental illness is much like rock climbing. Climbers need the right tools, knowledge, and guidance to ascend safely. One essential partner in climbing is the Belayer—the person who manages the rope, provides stability, and is always ready to catch the climber in case of a fall.
Similarly, individuals with severe mental illness need a network of support—family, friends, doctors, and counselors—who act as their Belayer, helping them stay steady and safe as they climb through life’s challenges.
The Belayer Foundation exists to be that support.
Our mission is to ensure that those affected by severe mental illness have the resources, care, and community they need, while supporting critical research necessary to find a cure.

Focus Area Projects
Improving the Support System and Caregiver Resources will enable a better path to recovery and outlook for those with severe mental health challenges. Berlayer Foundation has decided to put resources in areas which can have the greatest immediate impact.

01
LAI Antipsychotics
Long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotics are crucial for improving compliance in individuals with schizophrenia because they eliminate the need for daily oral medication, making medication adherence more manageable. This improved adherence, in turn, leads to better treatment outcomes, including reduced risk of relapse, hospitalization, and improved overall functioning.
02
Financial Support
Individuals with mental health disorders may struggle with financial management due to various reasons, including reduced motivation to manage finances when feeling low or depressed. Impulsivity, a common symptom of some mental health conditions, can lead to impulsive spending or decisions.

04
Assigned Caregiver
HIPAA can present challenges for caregivers trying to support family members with mental illness because it restricts the sharing of protected health information (PHI), including mental health records, without the patient's explicit consent. This can hinder caregivers' ability to coordinate care, advocate for their loved one, and effectively support them in their recovery.
